    1. aerobic vs anaerobic training: depends how you look at it. Wrestling practice already has a strong anaerobic component,so it could be argued you already have a lot of that. However, the stronger the aerobic base, the higher you can build anaerobic endurance. You can't train at a high pace for two hours straight if your aerobic base is lacking. A good aerobic base will allow you to recover better during breks as well. 2. interval training like Tabatas lead to plateaus within a short time frame like 8 weeks. Then you need to mix things up. 3. The Russians still do their daily runs. They do them because they found it works for them. They emphasize running hills at least once per week, sometimes daily in pre-season. 4. They also do their functional training like resisted shots, pummeling and throw entries with bands. The Greco guys also use dummies a lot. Finally, they will do partner work with guys from heavier weight classes, or from bad positions (like extended on a shot). Nothing wrong with that.

NOTE! Read the FAQ below before asking any questions about PEDs. Your answers are probably going to be there. The majority of this video is based on a one-hour podcast by Mark Bell's Power Project that features Jon's powerlifting coach, Jordan Chavez. Link to the full podcast: ua-cam.com/video/rsXm47I14dc/v-deo.html Get Coached by me: 🎯📚🤝coachsaman.com/ Training Programs: 💪📈🥊coachsaman.com/shop/ Instagram: 📸👉instagram.com/powertraini... Consultation: coachsaman.com/consult/ ''Why don't you talk about drug use in your video?'' I was anticipating this question would pop up, and truth be told, I wanted to do my best to avoid it because A. It is far from my area of interest, and B. It is not the main premise of this video. But if you insist, here is my stance: a surprising number of fighters at the top are, in all likelihood, on some form of PEDs (yes, even those who have not been caught). This is just the reality of the situation and a tragic fact of world-class competition. Simply because you see an athlete getting caught does not imply that the uncaught rest are 'clean.' ''But what about USADA? They perform random testing, ensuring that all athletes stay clean, right?'' If you believe the current (and past) anti-doping system ensures a level playing field, you are very deluded and need to do some homework. Here are some flaws: People who live in countries with strict testing have a disadvantage when compared to people who live in countries with lax or corrupt testing systems. For example, Russia doesn't do many tests on athletes before and after competition, so their athletes can compete unfairly against athletes from countries with stricter rules, like the US. PEDs are often used by top athletes and have been for decades. In the past, the East German doping program and the 2014 Sochi Olympics, where Russia used complex doping schemes, are two examples. There are many examples of top athletes, who initially were negative, tested positive years later (an ongoing process, due to advances in technology). This shows how common PED use is among elite athletes (not exclusive to MMA). That being said, how do some athletes (and fighters) evade getting caught? This is very contextual, and there are several methods (and probably many others outside of my awareness-this is not my main topic of expertise or interest). Microdosing. PEDs taken in tiny doses that can improve performance but are low enough to evade detection. Athletes want to maintain levels below the threshold that USADA tests would indicate as positive, so they take these tiny doses often. Some of the tests, like the carbon isotope ratio test and the testosterone to epitestosterone (T/E) ratio test, are very flawed. Designer drugs. Synthetic substances made to elude detection by means of the testing procedures in use today. These drugs can be chemically altered forms of well-known PEDs intended to either be rapidly metabolized or remain undetectable (because they are new and not yet listed as banned). Timing. Using drugs, for instance, during off-seasons or when one knows there will be gaps in testing. (Probably not as common in the UFC given that random checkups occur.) Or what about going on a ''retirement'' (and consequently not get tested) only to return later with the benefits? Masking agents. PEDs can be concealed in the body or their detection process hampered by substances known as masking agents. As they can dilute urine samples and lower the concentration of detectable substances, diuretics are a popular kind of masking agent. Replacing samples. Some have also tried to elude detection by substituting a clean urine sample for their own. Using equipment that mimic urination with clean urine that has already been collected is one of the more advanced techniques. Blood doping. To raise the number of red blood cells and improve the delivery of oxygen to muscles, blood dopers transfuse extra blood, frequently their own that has been stored earlier. If the athlete uses their own blood and transfusions are performed carefully to evade detection, this can be challenging to identify. Using invisible substances. Some drugs are more difficult to identify because they are either naturally occurring in the body or have natural equivalents. A few peptides and hormones, for example, may be able to pass for natural substances. Pharmacokinetic manipulation. This is adjusting metabolism in the body to eliminate the material more rapidly. Among the strategies are the use of other medications or techniques to momentarily change the function of the liver and kidneys in order to improve PED elimination. In a perfect world, I would like to eradicate all drug use. But this is how it works, sadly.
